Overview
Hangzhou First People's Hospital (杭州市第一人民医院) was founded in 1923 and is one of the oldest and most comprehensive public hospitals in Zhejiang Province. The hospital operates nine campuses with over 5,000 open beds, and holds 34 provincial and municipal key disciplines and specialised centres — one of the broadest clinical footprints of any hospital in Zhejiang.
It was among the first four hospitals in the province to receive Grade 3, Class A accreditation, the highest tier in China's hospital classification system. In recent years the hospital has been affiliated with Westlake University School of Medicine — one of China's newest and most ambitious research universities with a strong international faculty — significantly raising its research profile and international patient services capability.
The hospital is a particular leader in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, haematology, rare diseases, and integrative TCM and Western medicine programmes.
