Overview
The Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine (浙江大学医学院附属第二医院), known as SAHZU, has one of the most remarkable histories of any hospital in China. Founded in 1869 by the British Church Missionary Society — originally called Guangji Hospital — it was considered the finest hospital in the Far East at the time of its founding.
Today, over 155 years later, it remains one of China's leading academic medical centres, operating eight campuses with approximately 4,000 beds and a medical staff of over 7,000. In 2013, SAHZU became one of the first JCI-accredited academic medical centres in the world — meaning it met Joint Commission International's standards not only for clinical practice but for academic medical education and research.
